Alan Francis Sherman

Alan Francis Sherman, age 74, passed away at home due to heart and lung failure on December 28th, 2023.  He was surrounded by his family.

Alan was born January 26^th, 1949.  The second child to Lewis Jarvis and Betty Curtis Sherman, Alan was born in Spring Canyon, Utah.  The family moved to Moroni when he was five years old.  Alan played little league baseball and formed many lifelong friends in doing so.  He had a strong work ethic and as a young man first became employed by local farmers in Moroni.

In high school, Alan lettered in basketball, track, baseball and football.  He was selected as “all-state” in football and was voted “Most Athletic” his senior year at North Sanpete High School, from which he was Graduated in 1967.

In 1968, he was called to Bolivia, South America, and served a two-and-a-half-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Upon returning home, Alan attended Snow College and Brigham Young University.  Alan served in many church callings, including Stake High Council, Young Men’s President, Primary Teacher and Temple Preparation class.  Alan and Debbie were also called as missionaries and served at the stake cannery for 7 years.

Alan met Deborah (Debbie) Ann Gafa in the spring of 1972.  They were married on Aug. 24, 1973, in Moroni.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple in 1995.  They made their first home in a camp trailer (with no bathroom) and would shower at the laundromat in Fairview.  During this time, Alan worked to help construct the power plant in Huntington.  Alan was a saver, and a “cash-only” guy.  After five years of hard work and saving, Alan and Debbie built their first home in Fairview and did so with no mortgage!  In 1995, Alan and Debbie built their “forever home” on their farmland between Fairview and Mt. Pleasant (also with no mortgage) and have been essentially debt free their entire marriage.  He continued farming until this past year when his health deteriorated.

Alan worked in construction and became a master at his trade. He started his own construction company in 1978. He owned and operated A&S (Alan and Shane) construction until his “retirement” in 2019.

Alan enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, riding horses, farming, making silver and turquoise jewelry and spending time at their cabin where they had many “cabin friends.”

The highlight of his later years was being surrounded by grandchildren.

Alan will be remembered for blue spray paint, glitter, plastic toothpicks, being accident prone, teasing, never backing down from a fight, his beautiful handwriting, always being busy and never being lazy.  He was the hardest working man around.

Alan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debbie.  Daughters, Shelly Wood (Aaron), Ephraim, Shannon Pehrson (Brian), Mountainville, Sheena Sherman, Mt. Pleasant, and Samantha Peay (Kyle), Moroni.  Sisters Margret Keller (Terry), Salem, Leah Hill, Payson, and brother Scott Sherman (Beth), Bountiful.

After his death, Alan was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father, his Savior Jesus Christ and by his Grand-daughter-in-law Kiley Thompson Sherman, Son Shane Sherman, Brother Dale Sherman, and Parents Lewis Jarvis and Betty Maralene Curtis Sherman in addition to many other friends and loved ones.  We expect it was quite a reunion!

Funeral Services will be held January 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant North Stake Center. Viewings will be held January 14, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. and January 15, 2024 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment in the Fairview City Cemetery.
