Austin Nielson Lovell

February 3, 1936 — September 24, 2023

2/3/1936 ~ 9/24/2023

Austin Nielson Lovell passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on September 24, 2023.

He was born on February 3, 1936, to Burton and Lorna Nielson Lovell in Oak City, and spent his whole life there.

Farming was his life, and he loved his work! He ran his own farm for most of his life, until he joined forces with his brother JB, and was working with him almost every day until he had a stroke in March of 2023.

He was involved with the Utah Farm Bureau and was voted Utah Farmer of the Year. He also managed the LDS Church Welfare farm for 20 years, where he made many friends from all over the county.

In the winter months while his children were growing up, he drove the Oak City school bus and worked at Sears in Delta, which gave him more opportunities to make new friends and serve people, which were his favorite hobbies!

He loved the Gospel and served in many leadership capacities. including Bishop and High Councilman, but his love was serving with the youth and his favorite calling was as a Sunday School teacher for 15-17 year olds.

He served his first LDS mission in the New England States and was called with Meredith to serve in the Brisbane Australia Mission, after he retired from the church welfare farm. Upon returning, they were called to serve as service missionaries at Deseret Industries.

Austin loved music and was a member of the ward choir his whole life. He started the Oak City Dance Band with Meredith and his friend LaVerl Jackson while they were in high school. That dance band continued for many decades until he could no longer play his saxophone, but still carries on, with his family members at the helm!

He is survived by Meredith, his wife of 65 years; his children, Lori, Garn, Cindy. Joan, Daren, Rose Marie, and Kathryn, as well as 38 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS Chapel in Oak City at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 7th, 2023, with a viewing from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. There will also be a viewing for family and friends on Friday, October 6th from 6-8 pm at the Oak City Ward bldg.

Austin will be laid to rest in the Oak City Cemetery with his parents and grandparents.
