Doris Patricia Rasmussen, 93 of Fillmore Utah, passed away peacefully May 18, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born March 22, 1932 to Rhea Snead & Helen Anna Severson Hook in Long Beach, CA. Doris grew up in sunny Redlands, CA.
After graduating high school Doris moved to Arizona where she met and married Robert “Bob” Stanley Kessler. They later moved to his home town of Fillmore, Utah where they owned and operated the Feed Mill. Bob lost his life in an auto accident that left Doris a young widow. Doris found love again when she met Franklyn Drew Rasmussen, they married on September 3, 1966 in Fillmore, UT, later solemnized October 26, 2012 in the Manti Temple.
In Fillmore, Doris and Drew raised two children, Jeff and Patty, creating a loving home that welcomed her mother, Helen, who helped care for the children and they all cared for Helen in her later years. The family cherished their time together, enjoying camping, fishing, traveling, visiting relatives, riding horses, raising a variety of farm animals, and the delightful traditions of making pizzas on Sundays and having nightly ice cream.
A true pillar of her community, Doris dedicated her time and service to Fillmore, serving on the City Council and proudly stepping into the role of Mayor. Her contributions extended to the Library Board, Phavant Senior Citizens Board, and Mt. Catherine Manor Board, among other commitments. Doris’s spirit of service was ever-present, as she participated in the Ladies Fireman Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, Cub Scouts to name a few.
Doris was an avid reader and loved watching her programs on TV. She had a wonderful group of friends that came together for Club and played Pinochle and was also part of the Red Hats. In her more youthful years she rode motorcycles and raced flat track with Bob and later found the love of horseback riding and made many friends enjoying riding club with Drew, together, they traveled extensively, embarking on cruises across the world, and enjoyed many music concerts in Nashville, Branson, and Logandale.
Doris embraced her role as a grandmother, always there to support and care for her grandchildren. Her cookie jar, filled with fig newtons and wafer cookies, and her mornings filled with Eggo waffles, will forever be treasured memories. She truly was a rock in their lives.
Later in life, Doris joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found joy in temple work making weekly trips while she was able.
