Evelyn Patricia Mullins Kerby
October 9, 1938 – October 18, 2026
Evelyn Patricia Mullins Kerby, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, in Chester, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 9, 1938, in Murray, Utah, Evelyn lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, family, and an unwavering passion for the western way of life.
Evelyn was born to Walter Monroe Mullins and Dorothy Heuett Mullins. She grew up alongside her five sisters and three brothers, surrounded by family and the experiences that helped shape the strong, spirited woman she would become. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Evelyn held many positions in her younger years.
It was at the Cowboy Days Rodeo in Evanston, Wyoming, that Evelyn met her best friend and the love of her life, Rex A. “Bud” Kerby. Their shared love of hard work and rodeo brought them together, and in the spring of 1961, they were married in Elko, Nevada. Bud and Evelyn shared 49 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, rodeo, and the western traditions they held so dear. Their partnership became the foundation of a legacy that continues to live on today.
As the matriarch of Bar T Rodeo Inc., Evelyn helped build and preserve a legacy deeply rooted in the cowboy way of life. For more than 40 years, she served as a PRCA rodeo secretary and timer, and her dedication to the sport was known throughout the rodeo world. Her love for rodeo extended far beyond the arena. She helped raise and guide many young cowboys who worked for Bar T, offering them a place to learn, grow, work hard, and become part of the rodeo family. The influence she had on these young men and the traditions she helped carry forward will forever be part of her legacy. Bar T was more than a rodeo company; it was a way of life, and Evelyn was a big part of what made it special.
Evelyn was truly the life of the party. She had a mischievous sense of humor, a quick wit, and a gift for making people laugh. If the opportunity to scare you or torment you came up, you’d best believe she was going to take it, and she was going to enjoy every moment of it. She had a spirited personality that lit up a room and was packed to the brim with spunk. If there was laughter to be shared and a good time to be had, Evelyn was sure to be right in the middle of it.
Many will remember Evelyn for her cooking and the love she put into every meal. She had a way of making sure no one left hungry, especially a herd of hungry cowboys. Whether she was cooking for her family at home or for the cowboys on the rodeo trail, there was always room for one more and enough food to go around. Her kitchen was full of good food and good company, and memories were always plentiful.
For all she accomplished in rodeo, her family was always at the heart of her life. She was a proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who leaves behind generations to carry on her stories, her traditions, and her love. Her family will forever remember her laughter, her strength, her spunky personality, and the countless memories made along the way.
Evelyn’s life was a beautiful reflection of the values she lived by: loyalty, hard work, family, friendship, and a deep love for rodeo. She leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by accomplishments alone, but by the people she loved, the young cowboys she helped raise, the laughter she brought into the world, and the many lives she touched.
Though she is reunited with her beloved Bud, her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. Her stories will continue to be told, her laughter will be remembered, and her spirit will ride on through the family and western heritage she leaves behind. Evelyn lived life her way, loved her people fiercely, and left the world with a few more stories and a whole lot of laughter. She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Monroe Mullins and Dorothy Heuett Mullins; her beloved husband, Rex A. “Bud” Kerby; her daughter, Dannette Kerby; her grandson, Brody Martin Pierce; and her five sisters and two brothers.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Wendie Flitton and her husband, Jeff, and Lori Pierce and her husband, Martin; her four grandchildren, Kellie Addington and her husband, Sam; Cody Flitton and his wife, Linda; Tylee Murray and her husband, Tyrell; and Alie Jo Winn and her husband, Carter; her brother, Richard Mullins and his wife, Mary Ann; and many nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, McKenna and Jesse Addington, Kate and Tera Flitton, Oaklynn and Rylie Winn, and Wesley Murray, who will carry her love and legacy into the next generations.

Evelyn was able to spend her last years at home in Chester with Wendie and Jeff, surrounded by the love of her family. Even as her memory became confused, her spirit and spunk stayed strong. The family would like to thank Mary Jolley and Megan Roddam, who helped care for her each week and showed great love and compassion for Evie. Much thanks also to the Sanpete Hospice team, Tammy, Annie, Chris, Dr. Olsen, and Doug. The love and care you gave our whole family will never be forgotten.
There is a void in our hearts, but we find joy knowing Evelyn is no longer suffering. She taught her family to be strong, and in her memory, we will be. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, the rodeo community, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
