5/3/1941 ~ 12/15/2018
Gerold “OPA” Schroeder, born to Guido and Dora Schroeder on May 3, 1941 in Cottbus, Germany. His adventures started at an early age and continued throughout his life. He had an intolerance for injustice and in his quest for freedom brought his family to the United States from East Germany on December 15, 1981.
He was a provider, a collector and giver of things, a joker, a tamer-of-babies, and a miracle worker. He never told anyone “no” and never took “no” for an answer. By example, he taught everyone around him how to love unconditionally.
He found great joy in traveling the world and ministering to the underprivileged. He was a talented musician, played bass in a band, and had a great passion for music and nature.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was unwavering in his testimony of his Savior. He will be missed by all who knew him and his legacy will live on through stories told by his children and grandchildren.
Survived by his wife Christa; his children, Frank (Elke), David (Maria), Martin (Jill), Ina, Katy (Cody), Caroline (Vic), Tobias (Madison), 25 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and all the “adopted” children and grandchildren that lovingly called him “OPA”. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and two children, Gilbert and Anja.
Funeral services will be held Friday December 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spring City 2nd Ward Chapel (164 S Main). Viewings will be held Thursday December 20, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services both at the church. Interment in the Spring City Cemetery.
