With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Gregory Riley Smith, 53, of Indianola, Utah, formerly of Lehi, who passed away on September 14, 2026.

Greg was born August 5, 1973, in Provo, Utah, to Harold and Sue Smith. He grew up in Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School.

Greg spent many years working in construction and building homes. He had a natural gift for understanding how things worked. He could read a set of blueprints, spot a problem, and figure out how to make it right. Whether he was building, fixing, or cooking, Greg had a way of using his hands and his mind to create something worthwhile.

Greg was the father of three children: Zian, Zoie, and Skye Smith, and he loved them very much.

On March 17, 2007, Greg married Stephanie Schmidt, and with their marriage, two families became one. Stephanie brought her children, Mikell, Samuel, and Jacob, and Greg brought Zian, Zoie, and Skye. Together, they built a blended family and shared many years of experiences and adventures.

One of the brightest parts of Greg’s life was his nine-year-old granddaughter, Larue. Being “Papa” was a title he carried with quiet pride and love.

Greg and Stephanie were not only partners in life, but also in business. Together they started Grandma’s Minis, traveling throughout Utah and Idaho to festivals and community celebrations, serving mini donuts and fair food. Over the years, they met countless people and formed friendships along the way.

Their journey eventually led them to open Papa’s Pizzeria in Fairview. The restaurant became more than a place to get a pizza. It became a familiar part of the community, where customers knew Papa Greg and many became friends.

Greg is survived by his wife, Stephanie; his children, Zian, Zoie, and Skye; his stepchildren, Mikell and Samuel; his granddaughter, Larue; another granddaughter, “Myla,” on the way; his mother, Sue Smith; and his brothers, Spencer, Tyler, Skip, and Layne Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Smith, and his stepson, Jacob.

Greg leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, a community that will feel his absence, and many memories made through the years. Every festival, every batch of mini donuts, every pizza made, and every person who walked through the doors of Papa’s Pizzeria became part of his story.

Papa Greg will be deeply missed and forever loved.
