James Glenn Carter was born in Payson, Utah on August 31, 1945 to Gerald Holman Carter and Zella Irene Stephensen.
He left this earthly life to be reunited with his loved ones and Heavenly Father on January 16, 2019 at Laurel Groves assisted living in Nephi, Utah.
Jim grew up as the second youngest of nine children in Levan, Utah. Working at the family restaurant and raising and herding sheep with his brothers and sisters, he learned the value of hard work which he carried on throughout his life and passed on to his children.
He grew to love gardening and he always had the most beautiful yard of mature trees and flower beds. He loved to go out to the vegetable garden and eat fresh tomatoes with a salt shaker.
He loved camping, hunting and fishing with his family.
Jim was known as a highly skilled heavy equipment operator and was a long time member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Always focused on providing for his family, Jim worked in multiple states and all over Utah, building roads, highways and overpasses. Before retirement, Jim was finally able to return home and spend 8 years working for Millard County.
Jim married his sweetheart Linda Suzanne Rowser on July 18, 1968 later solemnized in the Manti Temple enjoying 32 years of marriage. They had five sons. On August 28, 2000, Jim’s wife Linda returned to her Heavenly Father.
On October 13, 2003 he married his second love Irene Robert in Fillmore, Utah. The marriage was solemnized on October 16, 2004 in the Manti Temple. They enjoyed 15 years together traveling to the majestic Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park and the bird sanctuary of Point Pelee National Park in the Great Lakes, to name a few. They spent many hours together gardening and canning.
He is survived by his loving wife Irene, his five sons: Richard James (Patricia), Jason James, Darren James (PattiJean), Jared James (Katherine), and Justin James (Sarah), 20 grandchildren,and 6 great grandchildren. He loved and adored each and every one. Watch out for Grandpa’s surprise bite! He is also survived by his siblings, Luena Francom, Connie Dubinsky, and Karl Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Jerry, Donell, Keith, and Daryl Carter and sister, Shanna Cox.
Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor, joyful demeanor, love of life and his great love for others.
Funeral services will be held Monday January 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fillmore 4th ward, 290 E 500 S Fillmore Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening January 20, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 til 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be in the Fillmore Cemetery.
