Joan Wallace Weston

Joan Wallace Weston passed away on June 23, the day after her 88th birthday. She was born in Price, Utah, June 22, 1937. As an only child she brought much joy to her parents. Born in the same hospital on the same day as her cousin, Carole Memmot, the two became fast friends—twins in all but birth.

Joan dared to do; she tried anything and everything that caught her interest. She was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was a teenager. She often credited her “good group of friends” and seminary for her conversion. Blessed with book smarts and an ability to dedicate herself, Joan excelled at all levels of school.

She met Jim Weston at a BYU dance. They married on June 9, 1959. Together they would raise 7 children, move 11 times, and serve 2 missions (first to China, English teaching, then to Moldova). A voracious learner all her life, she loved reading. The last few years it wasn’t surprising if she read two or more books a day. Joan was the kind of person that succeeded at everything she tried. She could paint, sew, teach English, play the piano, and beat the pants off her grandkids in any kind of card game. She loved to ski, camp, and hike. When she lived in Portland, Oregon, she volunteered at the zoo teaching chimpanzees sign language.

Her family meant the world to her. She and Jim shared their lives and love with anyone who needed them. Joan is survived by her seven children – Janet Colvin (Dale), Melinda Ostraff (Joe), Jameson Weston, Tina Perrin (Scott), Rance Weston (LaDawn), Ryan Weston (Lori), Ben Weston and Sheryl Weston, 32 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held Friday, June 27 at 11am with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 122 S State Street in Fairview, UT.
