Joannah Virginia McGugin Skelton, age 91, of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 25, 1934, in Hollywood, California, to Virginia and Clifford John McGugin. She lived a life centered on love, devotion, and quiet strength. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Hollywood before later moving to Utah, where she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Skelton Jr. They were married on April 27, 1957, and together built a beautiful life and lasting legacy. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles California Temple.
Joannah and Bob raised their family in Santa Ana, California where they enjoyed family vacations and spending time together. Following Bob’s retirement, they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Utah, where they created a home filled with love, family, and dear friends.
Jo was a devoted mother to her four children: Diana, Tod (Tina), Mark (Jennifer), and Juli (Blake). Her love extended far beyond her immediate family, as she is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her brother Bill (Shary) McGugin and multiple nieces and nephews, each of whom will carry her memory forward.
She found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. Jo had a strong testimony of the gospel and held many leadership positions in the church. She loved gardening, canning, crafting, caring for her home, and always creating a warm and welcoming place for others. Jo had a rare gift - she was not only a wonderful mother to her own children, but truly a “mother to many.” To know her was to feel loved, accepted, and cared for. She was the kind of mother everyone wished they had.
In 1984, she proudly embraced the title of “Grandma,” a role she cherished deeply. Though her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spread across multiple states, she never missed sending a birthday or holiday card—a reflection of her constant love and thoughtfulness.
After 61 years of marriage, her beloved husband and constant companion passed away in August 2018. In the years that followed, Joannah’s quiet strength continued to shine. She remained in their Mt. Pleasant home, the place where so many cherished memories were made, until her peaceful passing.
Her life was a testament to kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love. The impact she made on her family and community will be felt for generations to come.
