Marilyn Edwards, beloved wife of James Rolph Edwards, passed away June 15, 2023 in Salem, Utah, at the age of 77.
Marilyn is the daughter of Glen J. and Virginia Nielson. She was born in the front bedroom of their stately Victorian Ephraim home.
Marilyn graduated from Manti High School in 1963 and then completed her associate degree at Snow College. She became an outstanding hair stylist. She excelled as a pianist, and her graceful hands found expression in her beautiful Hawaiian dancing. Her hands were ever creating beautiful pieces of art. Her embroidery and tatting were exquisite. She was asked to make an altar cloth for the Manti Temple.
Jim and Marilyn met at church in Salt Lake City. He was assigned to be her home teacher.
Love blossomed, and on June 12, 1971, they were sealed in the Manti Temple for time and all eternity. After Jim completed his doctoral degree in Economics at the University of Utah, he was invited to teach at Hillsdale College in Michigan, Marilyn and Jim moved to Havre, Montana, where Jim became a professor at Montana State University. There they remained for over 35 years.
Marilyn had several health issues, including diabetes. Jim showed his true love by taking extraordinary care of her through her health problems.
Marilyn and Jim were blessed with a son, James Virgil Edwards, who passed away shortly after birth.
Marilyn is survived by her siblings; Larry Nielson; Barbara Mordecai (Steve); and Margaret Riding (Van). She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen J. and Virginia Nielson; son, James; sister, Catherine Russell and her husband Clyde.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 24, at 1 p.m.in the Ephraim Park Cemetery.
