Naomi Timothy Maxfield

September 17, 1936 ~ July 21, 2020

Our kind, creative, humorous and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Naomi Maxfield, died peacefully due to the effects of aging on July 21, 2020. She was 83.

Naomi was born in Ballard, Utah on September 17, 1936 to Lynn and Hazel Timothy. She and her eight siblings were raised in Roosevelt. Upon graduation from Uintah High School, Naomi moved to Salt Lake City.

Naomi married Chan L Maxfield on November 9, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Together they raised three boys: Larry Chan (Cory), Martin Edward (Janis), Jason Robert (Kristen).

Naomi loved art, singing, and music. In her teens and early twenties, she became passionate about drawing. She dreamed of illustrating vintage 1950’s women’s fashion magazines. When Chan broke his leg, she colored a voluptuous woman on his cast attracting attention everywhere he went. As an alto, Naomi loved singing harmony. She would harmonize to any melody on the radio and loved hamming up country songs with extra twang. When her boys were young, she would play recordings of Sousa marches and lead her boys marching around the house. At naptime, she would play recordings of Debussy and Chopin. She would encourage her boys to sing along with recordings of Broadway show tunes while standing atop kitchen chairs. She was very supportive when her children attempted anything in the arts.

Naomi was a serial venture-seeker. She was fascinated by the challenge of trying something new, then moving on to the next venture as soon as boredom set in. During her lifetime she took various classes and studied portrait painting, creative writing, public speaking, computer programming, accounting, real estate sales, photography and more. Her favorite place was being lost in her creative pursuits, oblivious to the world around her. She founded Maxfield Express, a computer services and leasing company and participated in the early startup of Access Development.

Naomi was preceded in death by her son, Marty, and daughter-in-law Janis. She is survived by her husband, children, eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

As a family, we wish to thank Jason, Kristen, Kaidin and Kienan for their compassionate, loving care of Naomi during her years of convalescence. They provided a safe and healthy home for Naomi and supported her during her long end-of-life departure.
