Norman Sego

October 26, 1938 — April 16, 2024

Norman Sego, age 85, passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2024. He was preparing his garden for planting, something that he loved doing every spring. While he will be missed, we will cherish the time we spent with him. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

He was born in Manassa, Colorado on October 26, 1938, to Blanche and Rulon Sego. He had fond memories of his childhood and life growing up in the San Luis Valley, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. From a young age he demonstrated that he was not afraid of hard work, and he excelled academically. He served in the army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma with an honorable discharge. While attending college at BYU in Provo, Utah, he met friends that introduced him to Sandy Brewer Strate. They were married on May 30, 1964, and embarked on their life's adventure of raising a family together. This year marked 60 years of that combined journey together, which they were planning to celebrate with their six children, eleven grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.

Norm was a family man-loving, hardworking, and dutiful. He strove to set an example of honesty, contentment, and enjoying life's simple pleasures. He earned the respect of many in the community as he conducted business as an auto mechanic. Everyone who came to know him was drawn to his kind manner, dry humor, and willingness to help.

Taking pride in his garden, particularly his carrot patch and Jonathan apple tree, he looked forward to the yearly harvest and enjoying the fruits of labor well into winter. Sandy lovingly made him countless apple pies, which he loved. He also shared his love for the mountains and deserts of Utah and the mountain West with his children and grandchildren. Summers and Fall were filled with numerous camp trips, family cookouts, and Sunday drives into the mountains with family and friends. Other beloved activities were riding horses, playing cards, doing puzzles, and listening to music.

As a dedicated member of the Christian congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, he enjoyed the love of the brotherhood in his local congregation and abroad. He often expressed his desire to see the fulfillment of the Bible's promise that God "will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."-Revelation 21:4, New World Translation.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Sego, and his children: Tara (Blake) Rosenlof, Bonnie (Rick) Jefferis, Lisa Sego, Kerry (Raelyn) Sego, Gregory Sego, and Holly (Justin) Roberts.

A Memorial Service will be held April 27th at 1:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Mount Pleasant.
