5/24/1952 ~ 5/25/2023

Ephraim-Rebecca Schmitt, 71, died Thursday, May 25, 2023. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah; May 24, 1952, but raised her family in Michigan. Her cherished sweetheart, Ralph Schmitt, died in 2017. They were married for 45 amazing years that were full of love, laughter and many great adventures. Together they created a beloved family, which she treasured. She is survived by her seven children; Douglas (Amy), CathyAnn (Jared), Jennifer (Nick), David (Suzanne), Nancy (Chris), Tom (Michelle), and Shari (Bryce), as well as 29 grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents; Shirley Ann and Donald Hales and her siblings; Steve, Ann and Carolyn.

Rebecca radiated light and joy and carried with her a love for all. She was an exceptional mom.  Rebecca was a gifted storyteller and worked professionally and recreationally in this field throughout her life. She taught 5th grade for 16 years, earning her master’s degree along the way and was the hoped-for teacher each year. She was enthusiastic and dedicated and her students loved her dearly. Her influence ran deep.

Rebecca was an avid quilter and excelled at orchestrating themed-activities. Reading was a great passion. She enjoyed writing poems. Those who received an “Ode” knew they had a special place in her heart. She loved traveling and has visited all 50 states and three continents. Although she enjoyed all of God’s creations, hiking in the pine-filled, aspen-studded mountains was a great love.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings with love and devotion. She eagerly gave of her time and talents. Serving others was a part of her soul. Rebecca was a true disciple of Christ. She will be missed by all who knew her.
