AMERICAN FORK- On December 27, 2025, the world lost a truly one-of-a-kind, a man whose word was his bond, where a simple handshake held the same weight as a formal contract leaving a profound impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sam George Kogianes passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, just twenty days after celebrating his 96th birthday. He lived a long, full life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and strength. Sam was born on December 7, 1929, in Provo, Utah, to George and Elpeneke (Leventis) Kogianes. He was one of ten children and grew up learning early the value of responsibility, perseverance, and family. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Provo in 1948, where he was a proud member of the FFA, an early reflection of the path his life would follow.

His first job was a milk route, hauling milk seven days a week for farmers. This set the tone for a lifetime love of farming and an exceptional work ethic. Sam took great pride in honest labor and often shared stories of his business ventures and hard-earned lessons. In 1950, Sam was drafted to the Korean war and served his country honorably. Over the course of his 96 years, he witnessed tremendous change and accomplished much through determination and a sharp mind.

On September 21, 1958, he married the love of his life, Crystal Zamantakis. Together, they made their home in American Fork, Utah, where they raised their two children, Sam Jr. and Irene. Sam Jr. inherited his father’s work ethic and love of farming, while Irene inherited his business sense and often referred to her dad as her hero, both literally and figuratively.

Sam’s passions were simple: farming, cattle, and checking crops. Some of his fondest memories were desert rides with his brother, Manus. While later in life, he cherished morning breakfast and coffee with his best friend, Boyd, stopping by the farm to check on Sam Jr. (and offer advice on what he was doing wrong), sharing countless conversations with his nieces and nephews, and cheering for BYU in basketball and football.

He took great joy in his role as Grandpa, and was very proud of his five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and each of their achievements. Sam will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and the love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down and the many lives he touched throughout his life.

Sam is survived by his children, Sam Jr. (Lori) Kogianes and Irene Kogianes; brothers, John Kogianes, Mike Kogianes, Gus Kogianes, Manus Kogianes, and George Kogianes; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Crystal (Zamantakis) Kogianes; parents, George and Elpeneke (Leventis) Kogianes; siblings, Jim Kogianes, Steve Kogianes, Mary Jenkins, and Tony Kogianes; great-granddaughter, Harlow Jane Beesley; and many friends and family members that have gone before him.
