Wendell Kay Memmott

Wendell Kay Memmott passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 81. He leaves behind a lifetime of quiet service, unwavering support, and deep love for his family.

Wendell was born on January 3, 1945, in Fillmore, Utah, to Nord Kay and Colleen Quarnberg Memmott. He was raised on the family farm in Scipio, where he learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and helping others. Although he later made his home in Sandy, Utah, he never lost his connection to the farm and regularly returned to help his family whenever there was work to be done.

On December 26, 1964, Wendell married Paula Paxton in the Manti Utah Temple. They made their home in Sandy, Utah, where they lived for more than 50 years. Wendell was a devoted husband and loving father.

Wendell dedicated 35 years of service to the State of Utah before retiring. He approached both his work and his personal life with patience, integrity, and meticulous attention to detail. Organized, dependable, and humble, he was the kind of person who simply showed up when someone needed help.

Wendell was exceptionally handy and loved to work on projects around the house. He could fix just about anything and was always willing to share his time and talents with others.

He found his greatest enjoyment outdoors. Hunting and fishing were lifelong passions, and each fall he looked forward to time spent in the mountains hunting deer and elk. Some of his happiest memories were made alongside his son, Mike, sharing a love of hunting and the traditions that came with it. He also loved traveling and took great pleasure in taking his family to Hawaii and on fishing trips to Alaska—experiences that created lasting memories for his children.

Though naturally reserved, Wendell had a quick wit that often caught people off guard. He was patient, thoughtful, and remarkably even-tempered. He rarely complained, never spoke unkindly about others, and had a gift for making people feel important. His life was defined not by seeking attention but by consistently putting the needs of others before his own.

Above all, Wendell was devoted to his family. He loved being a father and grandfather and took genuine interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren. They knew they could always rely on his encouragement, practical advice, and steady presence.

Wendell is survived by his children, Michael Kay (Deborah) Memmott and Monica Lyn Earl; his grandchildren, Miranda Memmott, Katelyn (Alan) Barth, Brinley (Bridger) Record, and Mitchell Memmott; and his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Barth and Navy Record. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of another great-granddaughter due next month. He is also survived by his brothers, Dwight and Kent Memmott.

Wendell was preceded in death by his wife, Paula; his parents, Nord Kay and Colleen Quarnberg Memmott; his brother, Stuart Memmott; and his parents-in-law, Mark and Nelda Paxton.

His absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his children and grandchildren. They will miss his calm presence, his willingness to help, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His example will continue to guide them, and his memory will remain a treasured part of their lives.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9”30 – 10:30 prior to services at the Cottonwood Creek 4th Ward. The address is 1834 East Creek Road Sandy, UT 84093. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Fillmore City Cemetery, 555 S 400 E, Fillmore, UT 84631.
